What are Veneers?

Veneers, also known as porcelain veneers are thin pieces of custom made porcelain that match the natural color of the teeth and are designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve the appearance of the mouth, teeth and smile. Veneers are commonly used to treat teeth that are discolored, stained, chipped or broken, or teeth that have gaps between or small misalignments. Veneers are considered a cosmetic solution to enhance the brightness of the teeth to provide a more sparkling smile. Most people consider veneers to be as a less invasive option than crowns or bridges. Aliso Niguel Dental group offers veneers made commonly from porcelain or resin composite material and provide detailed feedback on which is more suitable dependent on patient condition.

What is the procedure available for placing Veneers at Aliso Niguel Dental Group?

Our skilled and compassionate team of dentists at the Aliso Niguel Dental Group informs patients that since veneers are an irreversible treatment option we, therefore, prioritize in discussing any limitations and possible consequences of having veneers with our patients. Dentists at Aliso Niguel prefer to utilize veneers made from porcelain, due to their lasting period of 10 to 20 years, to correct the shape and color of the teeth.

The process involved in placing veneers requires two to three dental visits; one for consultation and one or two visits to make and apply the veneers with use of a local anesthesia requested by pain-sensitive patients. We encourage a one on one discussion between the patient and dentist to ensure whether or not dental veneers are appropriate for you. Preparation of the tooth for a veneer requires the dentist to remove a small amount of the enamel from the surface of the tooth to place the veneer. Dental x-rays and model or impressions of the mouth and teeth are also taken to obtain accurate measurements for a better fit with these impressions being sent to a dental laboratory for construction. However, before permanently placing a veneer, a temporary veneer is placed to determine whether the color and shape is a fit for the tooth. With the veneer being a compatible fit for the tooth, it is etched and rinsed with water and placed on the tooth using special cement.  The veneer is positioned under a light beam to cure all surfaces and fully attach to the surface of the tooth followed by removal of excess material and polishing of the veneer. Post treatment of veneers requires patients to schedule follow-up visits with their practicing dentists to examine the functioning and comfort of the veneers and to discuss any of the underlying issues they may have.

To ensure continued health of the teeth and gums we highly encourage patients to maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing their teeth on a regular basis. We dedicate our time in increasing both the confidence and well-being of our patients.
